CERT is a multidisciplinary team with expertise in chemistry, materials science and mechanical engineering based at the University of Toronto. Led by Prof. Ted Sargent and Prof. David Sinton, we are in the final phase of testing and scaling up our CO2 utilization technology to commercial viability

As one of the finalists in the $20M NRG COSIA Carbon XPRIZE competition, we have invented a technology that efficiently utilize CO2 emissions to produce renewable fuels and chemical feedstocks. When powered by renewable energy sources, our process provides net-neutral production of precursors for fuels and consumer plastic. At the heart of our technology is a record-breaking electrocatalyst that combines CO2, protons from water, and electrons, to make valuable chemicals such as carbon monoxide and ethylene.
